About Us

History

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, an 87-year old Colossus today, having in its fold, institutions of eminence, engaged in a wide range of activities to promote, nurture and perpetuate the quintessential gems of Indian Culture. Bhavan was founded by Kulapati K.M.Munshiji, an eminent Lawyer, Statesman, Journalist and a much-venerated Author, in the year 1938. Headquartered in Mumbai, Bhavan carries on its mission of promoting the values of the best of Indian culture, including dharmic thought, history, epigraphy, puranas, scriptures and so on, through its 130 Kendras (Centres) right through Agartala, Tripura in the extreme North East, to Wayanad, Kerala, in the South of India and 8 Centers abroad. There are some 200+ constituent educational institutions of Bhavan, recognized as being some of the finest Colleges and Schools in India.

Trichy Kendra

In this background, 14 years ago, a band of Eminent Trichy citizens decided that Trichy, the Heritage City, should not be deprived of the presence of such an enduring Institution and thus, the Trichy Kendra of the Bhavan came into being. The Trichy Kendra of the Bhavan is very well aware that if Society has to mature, its young citizens have to be trained to take up the role of their respective positions in the Super Power that India is projected to become in a few decades. To this end, the value systems that our ancients passed on to us will have to be imbibed by the youth. A modest beginning was made in the year 2011 with the establishment of the Centre and today, it has become a well-known, well-recognized movement. Bhavan’s, Trichy has, in the past eight years, facilitated the live performances in Trichy of various well known Classical Musicians, Dancers and other performers. Many Citizens of Trichy have praised the efforts and have wholeheartedly supported the programmes. There was also the need to address the aspirations of young local talents in various streams of arts requiring a platform in Trichy to showcase their respective degrees of mastery of arts.

One of our chief benefactors, the Infosys Foundation established in 1996, supports programs in the areas of education, rural development, healthcare, arts and culture, and destitute care. Its mission is to work in remote regions of several states in India. As an experiment to introduce the arts to the common man, Infosys Foundation and Bhavan, Bengaluru, started the “Infosys Foundation-BVB Outreach Program” in February 2015. The program provided scores of budding artistes in Trichy an opportunity to showcase their talent.
